People of Action

The Dolly Parton's Imagination Library has registered 1000 children in Surprise, El Mirage and surrounding areas. However, the program enrollment is capped here until additional funding is found.

If each Rotarian would fund 10 children for a year ($320) that would go a long way to helping us meet this financial challenge and enable additional enrollments. Several of our Rotarians have contributed and met this challenge, how about you!

Ron Klaphake, after leading DPIL from its inception to a successful and ongoing program has turned over the leadership to Rotarian Melanie Yager. We wish Melanie the best and will support her with all that is available to us.

From the President

ROTARY CLUB OF SURPRISE & SUN CITY WEST

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

August 2026

2026-2027 Goals

Meals of Hope

We have the upcoming Surprise & Sun City West effort for Meals of Hope on September 19 at the Ottawa University Faith Arena Lobby. This is our second MOH event following the successful initial event in 2025.

Rotarian and president-nominee Debbie Sullivan runs the organization in the West Valley and has also had successful meal packing events in other parts of the country. We expect to have funding for a minimum of 25,000 meals to distribute to Valley View Community Food Bank and St. Mary's Food Bank.

Here are some pictures from the 2025 event. We hope to make this an annual event and look forward to making it even bigger.

Other Q1 Events

The first quarter is a busy month for other projects and service opportunities. We hosted the Sounds of Autism team Building event with the necessities packing event at the Colonnade on August 11.

We welcomed new member Liza Rassner and are looking forward to her journey with our club. Liza will serve as Director of Community Relations and a key member of the 2027 Fore The Kids Golf Committee.

Our speaker for the August 11 meeting was Debbie Sullivan who addressed the issue of Food Insecurity and what we can do to help ease it.

New PHF Recipients

Honorary members Ron Klaphake and Michael Byers generously donated their PHF points to create 11 new PHF's and level up 4 existing PHF Rotarians.

Upcoming Events.

The Women 4 Women service event will be held on September 22 at the Colonnade beginning at 4:00 pm. Donations welcome and appreciated

Remember to look for those sponsors and golfers for our Fore The Kids Golf Tournament coming in February of 2027

Stay cool this summer!

Great Job!
