At its October 27 meeting, the Rotary Club of Surprise & Sun City West welcomed Kristi Hunter of Billy’s Place to discuss the needs of grieving children and families. Through peer support groups and a welcoming community, Billy’s Place helps families feel understood, connected, and less alone in their grief.

On Tuesday, October 27, the Rotary Club of Surprise & Sun City West welcomed Kristi Hunter, Development Specialist at Billy’s Place, who shared an important message about supporting children and families experiencing grief.

Kristi highlighted a sobering statistic: 1 in 9 Arizona children will experience the death of a parent or sibling by age 18. Grief doesn't simply disappear with time, and without proper support, its emotional impact can be long-lasting.

Billy’s Place provides a safe, compassionate environment where grieving children and families can connect with others who understand their experiences. Through peer support groups, the organization helps children process their emotions, find comfort, and recognize that they are not alone.

We thank Kristi for sharing the meaningful work Billy’s Place is doing in our community and reminding us how important compassion, connection, and support are for grieving families.
